Barbora is from Slovakia and studied Art History at Comenius University. She is a passionate fashion history enthusiast and spent years exploring the art of clothing, architecture, painting, and especially costume traditions from the Renaissance to the 19th and 20th centuries — extending far beyond the borders of her homeland. One of her prized pieces is a Renaissance costume based on a historically accurate portrait.
She never misses an exhibition on historical dress and is a regular at vintage events, which she traditionally attends with her longtime companion, Lucia. She is always curious about the amazing art and costume pieces she can find at antique markets, flea markets, or in second-hand (vintage) shops.
Her curiosity spans the globe, with a deep appreciation for the fashion and heritage of cultures like Japan and Korea. Together with Lucia, Barbora spent years in a historical reenactment group, gaining hands-on experience across eras — from early medieval times to the grandeur of the Baroque. They also danced Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque dances — quite literally wearing history.
Always eager to expand her knowledge, Barbora completed a lace-making course at Slovakia’s Center for Folk Art Production (ÚĽUV). With her experience in bobbin lace, she values handmade techniques. She loves that once you learn this craft, you can take it anywhere and create art wherever you are. She believes the most important thing is to preserve our ancestors’ skills. “Traditional crafts are dying — what a shame,” people say. She says, learn it, and add your stitch to the story.
She has particular expertise in Victorian fashion and is always happy to share her insights. Her knowledge is shaped by years of research, travel, conversations, and collaboration with other experts.
